Walter Mitchell Nunez, Jr.

Walter Mitchell Nunez, Jr. passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 4, 2024, surrounded by his family, at Passages Hospice in New Orleans, Louisiana, at the age of 71. He was born on Sunday, July 20, 1952, in New Orleans and resided in St. Bernard, Louisiana.

Walter was always a hard worker and provided for his family. He worked at Union Texas, Western Gas, and the New Orleans Carpenters Union as a Millwright. He enjoyed watching NASCAR racing and LSU women’s basketball. He spent his last six months surrounded by his family and friends while battling cancer. He enjoyed card nights, donuts, frozen coffees, Big B’s chicken wings, and Jeanfreau’s famous chicken salad. He was thankful for the time he was able to spend with his children and grandchildren.

Walter is survived by his wife, Theresa Taylor Nunez; children, Tabitha Gioia (Scott), Sabrina Travis (Chad), and Walter Nunez, III (Lexis); siblings, April Deffes (Sonny), Gerald Nunez (Anne Marie), and Michel Nunez (Maria); and grandchildren, Scottie, Emily, Bradley, Bailey, Lily, Tyler, and Katie.

Preceded in death by his parents, Louise Marie Molero and Walter Mitchell Nunez, Sr.

A special thanks to Theresa Nunez and Sabrina Travis for being there to take care of Walter from morning till night at every hospital he attended and when he finally made it home.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial at St. Bernard Catholic Church, 2805 Bayou Road, St. Bernard, Louisiana on Friday, April 12, 2024, at 12:00 pm. The visitation will be held at church from 10:30 am until 12:00 pm. Interment will follow in St. Bernard Catholic Cemetery.
