Sharon "Sherry" Garner Hinkson

Sharon “Sherry” Jean Garner Hinkson passed away on Monday, December 25, 2023 in Hammond, Louisiana at the age of 69.  She was born on Thursday, November 25, 1954 in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico and resided in Ponchatoula, Louisiana.

Sherry earned her master’s degree in Christian Counseling from the Baptist Theological Seminary in New Orleans and her undergraduate degree in Social Work from Southeastern Louisiana University.  She formerly served as Executive Director of CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) and worked at Granberry Counseling Children's Home.  Sherry was the owner and operator of Solutions for Life Counseling Center, where she counseled many couples and individuals throughout her career, and was a member of Westside Baptist Church in Ponchatoula, LA.

Sherry is survived by her beloved husband, Paul Hinkson; children, Michael Garner Hinkson, Lillian Hinkson Cheatwood, and Alton Hinkson; grandchildren, Sean Michael Cheatwood and Emily Cheatwood; mother, Dotti Tanner Garner; and siblings, Debra “Debbie” Garner Adams (Ronald), Teresa Garner Kimble (Ambrose “AJ”), Loris Melvin “Mel” Garner, Jr. (Laura), Curtis Rodney “Ronnie” Garner (Melissa), Robbi Garner (Greg Eslick), Lisa Garner Boudreaux (Chris), and Douglas “Marty” Garner (Sylvia).  Also survived by many nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by her father, Loris Melvin Garner; and youngest brother, Joseph Garner.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Sherry’s Life at Westside Baptist Church, 40375 West I-55 Service Road, Ponchatoula, Louisiana on Saturday, January 6, 2024 at 2:00 pm.  The visitation will begin at 1:15 pm and continue until service time.  A reception with coffee and cake will be held in the fellowship hall following the service.

Sherry will be deeply missed, but we know we will be reunited with her again in Heaven.
