Robert Leon Mathis

Robert Leon Mathis passed away on Monday, June 12, 2023 in Hammond, Louisiana at the age of 68.  He was born on Wednesday, June 16, 1954 in Little Rock, Arkansas, was a former resident of New Orleans and St. Bernard Parish, and resided in Ponchatoula, Louisiana. Robert proudly served his country in the United States Navy. “Boogie Bob” was a retired firefighter with the New Orleans Fire Department Engine #29 and was a retired courier with Labcorp.

Robert is survived by his beloved wife of 47 years, Linda Nail Mathis; children, Melanie Mathis (Mick), Angela Krieger (Josh), Lori Dudenhefer (David); grandchildren, Zachary and Zoey Prattini, Payton (Evy), McKayla, Annabelle, and Savannah Krieger, DJ, Dominic, and Bella Dudenhefer; future great grandchild, Braxton Krieger; sister, Sharon LaNoue (Paul); mother-in-law, Eleanor Nail; nieces and nephews, Elizabeth Walker, Matthew LaNoue, Heather Aulbert, Wesley Nail, Michelle Bertrand, Charles “JoJo” Monceaux, and Lynn Duplechain.

Preceded in death by his parents, Syble Millard Mathis and Robert Bee Mathis; and sister, Janette Sue Monceaux.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation in the chapel of LN Hughes Funeral Services, 21400 South I-12 Service Road, Ponchatoula, Louisiana on Friday, June 16, 2023 beginning at 3:00 pm followed by the Celebration of Robert’s Life on his 69th birthday at 5:00 pm with military honors.

Interment will be held at the Southeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery, 34888 Grantham College Drive, Slidell, Louisiana at a later date.
