Renee Puntila Mataya, of Ponchatoula, Louisiana, passed away peacefully at her residence, surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, September 26, 2026, at the age of 70. She was born on Thursday, March 8, 1956, in Duluth, Minnesota.

Renee will be remembered as a creative and talented woman who found joy in the things she loved most. She loved gardening and jewelry making, and she enjoyed the beach, the water, and shopping. Above all, Renee loved taking care of and spoiling her family, a devotion that shaped so much of her life and left a lasting impression on those closest to her.

Renee is survived by her beloved husband of 50 years, Armand J. Mataya, Sr. She also leaves behind her sons, Armand J. Mataya, Jr. and his wife, Sandra, Brandon J. Mataya and his wife, Christy, and Cameron A.R. Mataya and his wife, Wendy. Renee’s love also lives on in her grandchildren, Amelia, Allen, Jadyn, Cayden, and Melanie "Rose", who were among the great joys of her life.

Also survived by her brother, Brian Puntila and his wife, Leslie, and by her sisters, Mary Grammer and Deanna Puntila. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lorraine R. and Allen R. Puntila; and her brother-in-law, Robert “Bobby” Grammer.

Above all, Renee loved taking care of and spoiling her family, a devotion that shaped so much of her life.

Family and friends are invited to gather for visitation on Saturday, October 3, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of LN Hughes Funeral Services, 21400 S I-12 Service Rd, Ponchatoula, Louisiana 70454. A funeral service will begin at 3:00 p.m., followed by burial at Sandhill Cemetery, Ponchatoula, Louisiana.

Renee will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered for her warmth, her creativity, and the care she gave so freely to her family. Her memory will remain a treasured blessing to all who knew and loved her.
