Ray Clinton White, Jr. passed away peacefully at his daughter’s home in Ponchatoula, Louisiana on Saturday, May 8, 2021 at the age of 70. He was born on Sunday, April 22, 1951 in Bethesda, Maryland and was a transplant of Baton Rouge, LA for nearly 40 years.
Ray was diagnosed with Glioblastoma, a rare but aggressive form of brain cancer, in February of this year. He passed away exactly three months to the day of being diagnosed. His fight with this disease may have been short lived, but it will never be forgotten. Ray fought as hard and as long as his body would allow.
Ray, known to his kin as “Clint”, his good buddies as “Rouge”, and to his children simply as “Dad”, was always a fighter and fight he did! Giving up was never an option in his book. If he did not know an answer or how to do something, he would find out.
He was the first of three children of Ray and Frances Wimmer White. Ray’s father was a military officer and the family lived at or near various military bases in the US and Europe during his childhood.
He graduated from Andrew Lewis High School in Salem, Virginia in 1969. Shortly after, he joined the US Army and went straight to Vietnam. He worked as an air traffic controller while serving his tour in Vietnam. When he returned to the states, he eventually got a job with Joy Manufacturing and spent the majority of his career with them working as a Senior Field Service Specialist. His career required him to travel often, both domestically and internationally, and would ultimately be the demise of his love for travel. Ray would do anything he had to, to avoid flying on a commercial airplane.
Ray loved so many things; the railroad, anything concerning history, especially the Civil War, camping, fishing, boating, racecars, and motorcycles, but most of all Ray (Clint, Rouge, Dad, Pops) enjoyed a good time with great people. He was an amazing man with a huge heart. He was a man’s man. As he once said to me, not long ago, “I’m a simple man”.
Ray is survived by his three children: Gwen O’Neill and her husband, Bradley of Ponchatoula; Jesse White and his wife, Tess of Denver, Colorado, and Rachel King and her husband Shannon of Independence, Missouri; five grandchildren, Zachary and Josh LaFleur, Abigail Tamplain, Isaac Friedberg, and Wyatt White; and brother, Mark E. White of Charleston, WV.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Frances White; and brother, Leonard Franklin White.
Ray’s family extends a special thanks to Bridgeway Hospice who assisted extensively in the last months of his life.
A Celebration of Life will be announced.
