Mary Lucille Allard Alton

Mary Lucille Allard Alton, 95, a retired nurse, died Saturday, March 21, 2020 in her home in Slidell, Louisiana.  Mrs. Alton was born July 15, 1924 in Hanover, New Hampshire.  She grew up in Hartford, Vermont and West Lebanon, New Hampshire.  Mrs. Alton trained to be a nurse at Burbank Hospital School of Nursing in Fitchburg, Massachusetts.  She was in the United States Cadet Nurse Corp from 1943-1945.

Mrs. Alton worked at Burbank Hospital from 1945 until she married LTC Robert E. Alton, Sr. on December 2, 1950 and moved to New Jersey.  She worked part time at Marlboro Psychiatric Hospital in Marlboro, NJ for over 38 years.  She graduated from St. Joseph College, North Windham, Maine in 1984 with a Bachelor of Science Professional Arts Degree.  She moved to Slidell, Louisiana in 2004.

Mrs. Alton is survived by a son, Robert E. Alton, Jr. of Slidell, LA; a daughter, Joanne Nemeth of Newtown, PA; 5 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death in 1978 by her husband, LTC Robert E. Alton, Sr. and in 2005 by her daughter, Marilyn Clark.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, 1050 Robert Blvd, Slidell, Louisiana  70458.  The date will be announced.  Interment will be held in Holy Cross Cemetery, South Brunswick, NJ.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Catholic Charities USA , PO Box 17066, Baltimore, MD 21297-1066, in memory of Mrs. Mary Lucille Allard Alton.
