Marjorie Sharp Gainey passed away on Friday, January 3, 2025, in Hammond, Louisiana, at the age of 90. She was born on Monday, December 31, 1934, in New Orleans and resided in Ponchatoula. Margie was an excellent cook and made a legendary dark brown gravy that family and friends still rave about. Her shrimp and sausage gumbo, lasagna, and macaroni and cheese were second to none.
Marjorie is survived by her two sons and daughters-in-law, Glenn Dale and Sharon Methvin and Donnie and Debby Methvin; two daughters, Brenda Gainey and Rhonda Gainey; brother, James Sharp; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and two great great-children. Also survived by many family members and friends.
Preceded in death by her son, Dennis Methvin; stepson, Thomas Methvin; parents, Leslie Sharp, Sr. and Jessie Culbertson Sharp; and brothers, Leslie Sharp, Jr. and Paul Sharp.
Margie’s family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, aides and staff members at Belle Maison Nursing Home and Hospice of Baton Rouge for their loving and compassionate care.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Celebration of Marjorie’s Life in the chapel of LN Hughes Funeral Services, 21400 South I-12 Service Road, Ponchatoula, Louisiana on Friday, January 17, 2025, at 1:00 pm with Brother Glynn Fendlason presiding. Visitation will begin at 11:00 am and continue until service time. The reception room will be available for family and friends to gather throughout the day.
