Maria Pangelinan Castro McCulloch, a beloved matriarch and cherished friend, was born on Monday, May 27, 1940, in Yona, Guam. She graced the world with her presence for 85 vibrant years, where she filled the lives of her family and friends with joy and love until she peacefully passed away at her residence in Springfield, Louisiana, on Saturday, January 3, 2026.
Maria was a woman whose heart was as vast as her passions. She found immense fulfillment in cooking for her family, delighting them with dishes that carried the warmth of her love and the flavors of her heritage. Her kitchen was a sanctuary of laughter, gathering family around the table to share stories and make memories—a testament to her unwavering dedication to family bonds. Besides her culinary talents, she enjoyed traveling and had a spirit of adventure that led her on numerous journeys, including memorable cruises that allowed her to explore new horizons.
Maria’s love for cooking and travel was matched only by her talent for needlework. Every piece she crafted carried her creativity and warmth, a quiet testament to her artistic spirit. She also found joy in gardening, tending to her plants with the same care she poured into everything she touched.
She leaves behind a loving family, including her devoted children Donna C. Landeche (Barry), Sabrina Cruz, Jerry Clark (Dorothy), and Paridy McCoy (Dennis). She was also the proud grandmother of 15 grandchildren and lovingly known as "Great Grandma" to 7 great-grandchildren, each of whom carries a piece of her legacy in their hearts. Her sister, Julita Pangelinan San Nicolas, remains to honor the bond they shared throughout their lives.
Maria was preceded in death by her parents Antonia Quichocho Pangelinan Castro and Juan Barcinas Castro, and her siblings Josephina Pangelinan Mantanona, Joseph Pangelinan Castro, John Pangelinan Castro, and Gregorio Pangelinan Castro. Each of them played a part in shaping the remarkable woman she became and will forever hold a place in her family's memories.
As we reflect on Maria's life, we remember her not just for her talents but for the love she exuded and the warmth she shared. She was a beacon of light—an embodiment of gentleness and strength—and her spirit will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of those who loved her. Maria will be deeply missed, but her legacy of love, family, and joy will forever remain alive in our hearts.
