Mack James Perkins, Sr. passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, in Amite, Louisiana. He was born on Monday, July 18, 1938, in New Orleans, Louisiana, and was raised in Amite. He lived a life marked by faith, service, music, craftsmanship, and love for others.

Mack served his country in the United States Army and was honorably discharged as a Specialist Third Class in 1957. He later worked for the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Department as a security guard at Lallie Kemp Hospital until his retirement. He was also a master craftsman in auto body work and painting, a skill that reflected both his steady hands and his pride in doing things well.

Music was one of the great joys of Mack’s life. He was an amazing steel guitar and lead guitar player who loved playing alongside his son and many friends. A talented musician, he found happiness in sharing that gift with those around him. He was often humming a tune or telling a joke to make someone smile, and his presence brought warmth to many gatherings. He lived a full and happy life, one rooted in serving people and loving Jesus. He would help anyone he could as long as he was able.

Those who knew Mack will remember his sweet, tender spirit and his heart of gold. He was loved by many, not only for his kindness, but also for the joy and lightness he carried with him. He was a sharp dressed man whose style matched the dignity and care with which he lived each day.

Mack was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 53 years, Margaret Domiano Perkins; his daughters, Mary Margaret Perkins and Angela Michelle Perkins; his parents, Mack Mitchell Perkins and Mary Perkins; his grandson, Louis Mitchell Perkins; and his brother, Luther Perkins.

He leaves behind a loving family who will cherish his memory. He is survived by his son, Mack James Perkins, Jr. and his wife, Lori. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Margaurite Sirchia and Rodger Granger, Jami Reid and Joey, Ashley Miller and Blaine, Joseph Sirchia, and Nicholas Perkins. His legacy continues through his great-grandchildren, Kenli, Karlee, and Kolton Reid, Taylar Perkins, Case, Clay, and Cameron Miller, Ashleigh, Ashton, Ahydon, Ryder, and Maddix Granger. He is also remembered by Debbie Brister, his former daughter-in-law. May the love he gave so freely remain a lasting comfort to all who knew and loved him.

Visitation for Mack will be held on Sunday, September 20, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. in the chapel of LN Hughes Funeral Services, 21400 S I-12 Service Rd, Ponchatoula, Louisiana. The funeral service will begin there at 4:00 p.m. Burial will follow at 5:30 p.m. at Colonial Cemetery, Independence, Louisiana.

Mack leaves behind a legacy of music, faith, laughter, service, and love. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.
