Larry Ronnie Barnes

Larry Ronnie Barnes, known as Big Ronnie Sr. to family and friends, gained his wings on Sunday, February 20, 2022, at his church in Loranger, Louisiana, at the age of 74.  He was born on Monday, February 24, 1947, at home, in Ponchatoula, Louisiana.  In his teen years he served as a Merchant Marine.  Upon his return home, he discovered his love and passion for music.  Music became his lifelong career which spanned the next 5 ½ decades.  Ronnie was very well known and respected in the local music scene for being known as one of the most versatile musicians around.  He started out on drums in the 60’s.  Shortly after he moved on to lead guitar and keyboard.  He was inspired by his older brother, Jerry, to learn pedal steel guitar in the early 80’s.  Music truly was his life, aside from his family.  He will be missed by many in the music industry as well as his family and friends.

Ronnie is survived by his beloved children, Heather, Robin, Kyle, and Ronnie; grandchildren, Stephanie Barnes, Rhonda Barnes, and Kallie Barnes Larpenter; great grandchildren, Phillip, Raylynn, Alaina, Austin, Aiden, Aaron, and Nolan; and siblings, Elton Barnes, Elwoe Barnes, Timmy Barnes (Debbie), and Barbara Barnes (Curtis).  Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by his parents, Agnes Bertha Hoover Barnes and Oather Gibson Lafitte Barnes; son, Terry Barnes; and siblings, Sharon Barnes, Debra Barnes, Tressie Barnes Costanza, and Yvonne Barnes.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation in the chapel of LN Hughes Funeral Services, 21400 South I-12 Service Road, Ponchatoula, Louisiana 70454 on Friday, February 25, 2022 from 10:00 am until 1:00 pm.  The Funeral Service will follow at 1:00 pm.

Interment will be held at Bedico Community Cemetery immediately after the service.
