Johnny Ray Prine, Sr., known as "Paw Paw Johnny" to all who knew and loved him, peacefully passed away at his residence in Tickfaw, Louisiana, on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, at the age of 67. He was born on Sunday, February 2, 1958, in Independence, Louisiana.
Johnny took immense pride in his military service, which was a defining aspect of his life. His commitment to his country and the values it instilled in him were evident in the way he approached life and treated those around him.
Paw Paw Johnny leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and kindness. Though he may be gone from this world, his spirit will live on in the stories we tell, the lessons he taught, and the love he gave so freely. Johnny was a proud grandfather and great-grandfather. His greatest joy came from spending time with his family—especially his grandchildren, who were the light of his life. He was a man of simple pleasures: going on adventures and jamming out to his favorite tunes and always having the time of his life. He had a one of a kind personality and a laugh that we will never forget. He enjoyed cheering on the Saints, and sharing a pot of gumbo with family and friends during Sunday gatherings. His love for life was matched only by his love for others. He is survived by many family members and devoted friends who will remember him for his generosity, strength, and unwavering support. He loved and cherished his family and extended family more than anything in this world. He was loved by all who knew him and was the life of the party! His legacy will live on through the countless lives he touched.
Johnny was preceded in death by beloved son, Johnny R. Prine, Jr.; parents, Clarence Prine and Leona Pierre Prine, who undoubtedly laid the foundation for the compassionate man he became. Also preceded in death by his sisters, Shirley Prine and Joyce Ann Sullivan and numerous other aunts, uncles, and cousins.
The visitation and funeral service will take place on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, in the chapel of LN Hughes Funeral Services, 21400 South I-12 Service Road, Ponchatoula, Louisiana.
