Jesse “Larry” Tanner passed away on Saturday, March 1, 2025, at his residence in Ponchatoula, Louisiana at the age of 82. He was born on Wednesday, November 11, 1942, in Winnfield, Louisiana. Larry was a beloved family man and neighbor. He enjoyed playing his guitar and singing with his brothers and riding his grandchildren on the tractor in the fields. He proudly served in the United States Navy. He retired from Avondale Shipyard after 37 years and worked for Louisiana First Choice Car Auction in Hammond, LA for 18 years.
Larry is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Elaine Richardson Tanner; daughter, Sherrie Ragan (Jody); son, Larry Tanner, Jr. (Michelle); granddaughter, Ashley Ragan Beauchamp (Aron); and grandsons, Jason Ragan (former wife, Stacey), Trevor Ragan (Amanda), Ethan Tanner, Nathan Tanner, and Matthew Tanner; great grandchildren, Brooklyn, Bailyn, Brynn, Kenley, Maddux, Jackson, and Landon; brothers, Charles Tanner, Terry “Mackie” Tanner (Cindy), Howard “Bojack” Tanner (Marie), and Michael “Pete” Tanner. Also survived by many nieces, and nephews.
Preceded in death by his son, Joseph “Joey” Wayne Pinion; parents, Carrie and Mike Tanner; brother, Houston Tanner; sisters, Gail Tanner, Glenda Turnage, Sandra Tanner, and Pam Tanner; and grandparents, George and Elizabeth Shirley and Frank and Mattie Tanner.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Service in the chapel of LN Hughes Funeral Services, 21400 South I-12 Service Road, Ponchatoula, Louisiana on Thursday, March 6, 2025. The visitation will begin at 9:00 am followed by the service at 11:00 am.
Interment will be held in Carter Cemetery, Springfield, Louisiana with U.S. Navy Funeral Honors.
