James Desrie Gates

James Desrie Gates passed away on Friday, March 4, 2022, at Maison de Lafayette Nursing Home in Lafayette, Louisiana, at the age of 86.  He was born on Sunday, July 7, 1935, and was a lifelong resident of Ponchatoula, Louisiana.

James is survived by his beloved daughter, Donielle D. Gates and her companion, Dwayne Foy; grandson, James P. Smith; and granddaughter, Chloe Lynn Hutchinson.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 39 years, Geraldine Eva Zacharias Gates; parents, Desrie Gates and Ursulla Lavigne Gates; brothers, Henry, Berhman, Randolph, and Hamilton Gates; and sisters, Ernestine Williams and Melba Laura Portier.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation on Saturday, April 30, 2022, in the chapel of LN Hughes Funeral Services, 21400 South I-12 Service Road, Ponchatoula, Louisiana, from 10:00 am until 12:00 pm.

The Memorial Service will begin at 12:00 pm with Pastor Roy Hutchinson of the Living Well Christian Church presiding.

Interment will be held in Bankston Cemetery, Hammond, Louisiana at a later date.
