Horace D. Black

Horace D. Black passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 04, 2025, at his residence in Independence, Louisiana, at the age of 78.  He was born on Friday, March 8, 1946, in Dickson County, Tennessee. He retired from Batesville Casket Company after 32 ½ years and didn’t miss a day of work.

Horace was Baptist by faith. A former deacon at French Corner Baptist Church he lived his faith and shared his faith with others. A current member of Old Zion Hill Baptist Church, he was an honorable and thankful man, filled with love and integrity. He thanked Precious Lord Jesus everyday for his three wonderful sons, his adoring wife, and loving family.

Horace is survived by his wife, Joan Guire Black; sons, Curtis Black (Katrina), Matthew Black (Stephanie), and Mark Black (Misty); daughters, Reneé Crossno and LaVonne Cox (Andy); sister, Betty Sue Nicks; 12 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by his parents, Sally Ruth Satterfield Black and James “Lee” Black; siblings, Delmer Lee Black, Annie Mae Robertson, and Thurman Ray Black; and infant sister, Susie Ruth Black.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Service in the chapel of LN Hughes Funeral Services, 21400 South I-12 Service Road, Ponchatoula, Louisiana on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, at 1:00 pm with Pastors Gary Dennis and Eric Hattaway presiding.  The visitation will begin at 11:00 am followed by the funeral at 1:00 pm.  Family and friends will gather in the reception room after the service.
