George Harold Albury

George Harold Albury, of New Orleans, Louisiana, left this Earth peacefully on Friday, May 29, 2026, having lived 94 very meaningful years. Harold was a beloved father to two daughters, Grandpère to five, and Great-Grandpère to six, and will be missed dearly.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Albury; his parents, Lillian Mary Albury and George Harold Albury Sr. and his stepfather, Michel Cambeilh. Harold lost his father at the age of nine and we are so grateful they are reunited now.

Harold leaves behind his loving children, Leslie Albury Power and Allison Albury Becnel, as well as his sons-in-law Michael Power and Carl Becnel. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Matthew, Samantha, and Sean Power; Trey Becnel and Christina Becnel Anastasiadis; Matthew’s wife Elizabeth Power, Samantha’s partner Tyler Wakefield, and Christina’s husband Niko Anastasiadis; and his six great-grandchildren Ashlyn, Ashton, and Abigail Power; Brianna Rando, Max Rando, and Leo Anastasiadis.

Harold was born on December 22, 1931, in New Orleans, Louisiana – a city he knew deep in his heart was the greatest place on Earth. Harold was a third-generation New Orleanian. He served in the United States Marine Corp from 1952 to 1954 and was a proud graduate of Tulane University in 1958, where he majored in journalism. He married his beloved wife Barbara on June 1, 1957, at Holy Name of Jesus Church and she became a New Orleanian too. Harold and Barbara became proud parents in 1959 to Leslie and welcomed their second daughter Allison in 1964. Their girls were their pride and joy.

Harold founded and operated his business, Graduate Personnel Consultants, for over 25 years. He assisted dozens of companies in the New Orleans area with making their businesses more secure. His largest client was Schwegmann Grocery Stores. In the late 1980s, he began assisting his wife Barbara, running Classic Style Homes, Inc., a residential construction firm. Over a twenty-four-year period they built over 60 beautiful custom homes for families in Metairie, Kenner, and Covington.

Harold was an engaged parishioner of St. Philip Neri Church in Metairie. He was deeply committed to his parish community and to service through the church. He co-founded the St. Phillip “Feed the Homeless” men's club cooking crew which prepared, delivered and served meals to the homeless population in New Orleans. This crew has grown and continues to serve the New Orleans area homeless population. He found comradery, lifelong friendships, and profound meaning in their mission. Harold was actively involved in feeding the homeless for over thirty years.

Being ‘Grandpère’ to his grandchildren and great grandchildren gave Harold so much joy. He loved creating magic with the kids in his life. He particularly loved the holidays and was known for bringing his full creativity to decoration, costumes, and making treats.

Harold had excellent taste in music – with a particular liking for Frank Sinatra and Bing Crosby and would sing along and wave his arms till his last days with us. He had a sense of humor that everyone who knew him got to experience. He will long be remembered for his edgy and disarming jokes. Even if he just met you, he did not hold back.

Harold leaves a beautiful legacy in the family he helped create, care for, and inspire over the years. We will do our best to carry Harold’s sense of humor and commitment to service, prayer, play, and beauty into our lives. We are incredibly grateful for his 94 full years on this Earth.

The family would like to give special thanks to Harold’s selfless caregivers, Lenora and Valerie, who went above and beyond to assist with Harold's care during his final years. They kept each other laughing until the end.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Harold’s memorial service at St. Philip Neri Church (6500 Kawanee Ave, Metairie, LA), on Friday June 12 at 11 am. Visitation begins at 10:30 am.
