Francis Joseph Goelz, Jr., a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, departed this life peacefully on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, in Hammond, Louisiana, surrounded by his cherished family. Born on Thursday, February 10, 1938, in New Orleans, Louisiana, Francis and his wife, Margaret raised their family in Carolyn Park in Arabi on Patricia Street prior to relocating to Hammond after Hurricane Katrina. He lived a life full of dedication, love, and service, leaving behind a legacy that will forever resonate in the hearts of those who knew him.

For over 32 years, Francis devoted his professional life to the Orleans Parish School Board, where he worked in the maintenance department. His commitment to excellence was matched only by his passion for assisting others. Francis was always ready to lend a hand, share his vast knowledge of fixing everything, and impart valuable skills. He was not only a master of many trades but also a gifted storyteller, sharing memories that brought smiles and laughter to family gatherings.

A proud Paw-Paw, Francis adored his family and always placed them first. He considered them his trophies, exemplifying a lifetime of dedication and love. His legacy is survived by his beloved wife, Margaret Rabalais Goelz, with whom he shared 68 wonderful years of marriage. Together, they nurtured a loving family that includes their children, Theresa Goelz and Frank Goelz (Cindy), as well as grandchildren, Nicolas Feraci (Julieta), Natalie Feraci Williams (Landon), and Megan Goelz Robert (Adam). Francis was also blessed with great-grandchildren Avery, Dean, Ellie, Elouise, Wesley, Katherine, and Noelle, who brought immense joy to his life.

Francis is further survived by his nephew, Earl “Smitty” Herard (Pam), with whom he shared a special bond, along with many other nieces, nephews, and close friends whom he considered family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Pearl Kessling and Francis Goelz, Sr., as well as his beloved grandson, Justin Goelz. He also mourned the loss of his siblings, Federick Goelz, Edward Goelz, Rita Vuljoin, May Kinler, and Jessie Chase. Each of these losses carved a place in his heart, reminding him of the deep connections formed over a lifetime.

As we remember Francis Joseph Goelz, Jr., we celebrate a man whose love was a guiding light, whose teachings were a foundation of strength, and whose laughter filled every room. His spirit will live on through the generations he touched and the memories they will hold dear. May his legacy continue to inspire and uplift all those blessed to have known him.
