Eleanor Howes Kinchen

Eleanor "Ellie" Howes Kinchen passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, at her residence in Ponchatoula at the age of 94. She was born on August 12, 1930, during the Great Depression and was a lifelong resident of Ponchatoula, Louisiana.  She was an incredible cook and it gave her so much joy to feed all that gathered around her kitchen table. She was rooted in the Christian faith, a prayer warrior, and was not ashamed to share with all that knew her love of God and the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ.  She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and aunt. She was born in the strawberry farming industry and enjoyed being a part of Ponchatoula’s strawberry culture for many decades.

Eleanor is survived by her sons, Barry J. Kinchen (Xiuchun), Keith H. Kinchen (Rachael), Stanley R. Kinchen (Diane), Luther D. Kinchen (Vicki), Dewitt Carl Kinchen, Jr. (Donna); daughter, Susan K. Perrin (Ray); brother, Oneil L. Howes; grandchildren, Kent Kinchen (Lisa), Victoria Kinchen, Caleb Kinchen (Ashley), Tyler Kinchen, Jonathan Kinchen (Becky), Nicholas Kinchen (Catherine), Kimberly K. Maddox (Kevin), Jamie K. Meek (Justin), Dathan Kinchen, Dylan Kinchen, Devin Kinchen, Dane Kinchen (Ashley), Dustin Kinchen (Samantha), Desiree’ K. Hale (Stephen), Stephen Perrin (Jessica), Adam Perrin, Derek Perrin (Amber), Raymond Perrin (Ellen), and Hao Wei Feng.  Also survived by 20 great-grandchildren, and many more nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by her beloved husband of 56 years, Dewitt Carl Kinchen Sr.; parents, Eleanor Davies and Clifford L. Howes; and siblings, Clarence Howes, Wilbert “Bill” Howes, Troy Howes, Brennen Howes, Hiram Howes, Alma Howes Gay, and Catherine “Dee” Noelie Howes McLain.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation on Saturday, November 16, 2024, in the chapel of LN Hughes Funeral Services, 21400 South I-12 Service Road, Ponchatoula, Louisiana from 10:00 am until the Funeral Service begins at 12:00 pm.

Interment will follow in Davies Cemetery.
