Dominick lived a life shaped by hard work, service, creativity, and deep love for his family.

Dominick Joseph Gioia, Sr. passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Sunday, September 13, 2026, in Slidell, Louisiana, at the age of 65. He was born on Wednesday, December 7, 1960, in New Orleans, Louisiana and spent many years in St. Bernard Parish.

Dominick lived a life shaped by hard work, service, creativity, and deep love for his family. He proudly served in the United States Army as a Specialist 4 with the 11th Air Defense Signal Battalion, 32nd AADCOM, in Kaiserslautern, West Germany. Assigned to Team Delta 3, whose shop was housed in a retired World War II Army hospital, he repaired FM radios and communication equipment that supported the Nike-Hercules missile site there. During his time in service, he was also known as the undisputed foosball champion of Team D3.

Construction was the work of his life. For most of his career, Dominick worked as a superintendent in commercial construction, bringing dedication and experience to his trade. Since 2018, he was the owner and operator of DG Construction, where he focused on home remodeling and repairs. He took pride in what he built and repaired, and his work reflected both skill and commitment.

Outside of work, Dominick enjoyed the things that brought him peace and connection. He loved drawing and painting and was very talented. He also enjoyed fishing and crabbing, and he liked listening to the Rock & Roll music of his generation. He was a phenomenal cook, a huge Saints fan, and someone who especially loved spending time with his family during holiday parties. Those celebrations, filled with food, laughter, and togetherness, were among the moments he treasured most.

Dominick is survived by his devoted partner, Rebecca Jobe; his children, Eric Strother, Dominick Gioia Jr., Jason Gioia Sr. (Chelsea), Malissa Gioia, and Justin "Buddy" Gioia Sr. (Dorothy); and his grandchildren, Devan Young, Amiyah Gioia, Jason Gioia Jr., and Justin Gioia Jr., are all part of the legacy he cherished. Also survived by his brothers, Joseph Gioia, Jr. (Lou) and Michael Gioia, Sr. (Tessie); his sisters, Adeline Walsh, Linda Hughes, and Penny Erato (Paul); his former wife and mother of his children, Madeline "Annie" Gioia; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and devoted friends.

Preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Sr. and Eleanor Barrios Gioia; his brothers-in-law, John Walsh III. and Harry Hughes Sr.; and his great-nephew, Kail Verdon.

A graveside service with military honors will be held on Friday, October 2, 2026, at Southeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery, 34888 Grantham College Dr, Slidell, Louisiana 70460 at 1:30 p.m.

A Celebration of Dominick's Life will follow at LN Hughes Funeral Services, 21400 South I-12 Service Rd, Ponchatoula, Louisiana from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m..

Dominick will be remembered as a proud veteran, a skilled builder, a talented artist, a devoted family man, and a man who brought warmth to those around him. His memory will live on in the stories shared, the meals remembered, the holidays celebrated, and the love he gave so freely.
