David Ralph Sowers, Jr., known affectionately as Dave, was born on August 10, 1943, in Vandergrift, Pennsylvania. On February 2, 2026, he peacefully departed this world surrounded by family in Ponchatoula, Louisiana, leaving a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories.

Dave dedicated over 35 years of his life to the Schwinn Bicycle Company as a District Manager, a role that not only allowed him to thrive professionally but also connect deeply with the community and its customers. His leadership was respected, but it was his genuine kindness and understanding that truly set him apart.

A proud veteran, Dave honorably served in the Air Force as Air Police at McGuire Air Force Base in New Jersey. His service shaped the man he became, instilling discipline and a sense of duty that resonated throughout his life. He was a devoted member of the Pleasant View Brethren Church in Vandergrift, Pennsylvania, where he found solace and community, attending with his beloved wife and daughters.

Dave was a man who found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He loved the outdoors, filling his days with hunting, fishing, beagling, and playing softball. Many fond memories were created at the Pucketos Beagle Club, where he spent countless hours running rabbits and field trialing with his beloved dogs. He cherished quality time with family and friends at “The Kozy K,” the family camp nestled in the mountains of Western Pennsylvania.

A jokester at heart, Dave loved a good practical joke, always seeking to bring laughter to those around him. His vibrant personality and infectious laughter had a way of brightening any room and warming the hearts of everyone he met.

Dave leaves behind his loving wife of 59 years, Kathryn Margo Criss Sowers; daughters Tammy Sendry (Toby) and Jackie Lanning (Dan); granddaughters Meighan Lanning and Justine Lanning (Dylan); grandson Seth "David" Sendry; great grandsons Beaux Jacob Martin and Brantley Daniel Martin; and his sister Patty Sowers Fello. He is also survived by brother-in-law and sister-in-law Michael and June Criss, and many nieces, nephews, family members, and dear friends whose lives he touched in immeasurable ways.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Roberta Clever and David R. Sowers, Sr.; his niece LuAnn "Annie" Fello Angelini; brother-in-law Robert "Boots" Fello; uncle Bob Clever; and his best friend David Swarmer.

As we gather to honor Dave's remarkable life, we cherish the countless memories we hold dear. His spirit will continue to live on through the many lives he influenced and the love he exemplified. He will be sorely missed but forever held in our hearts.
