Clement "Clem" Rodrigue Duval, a devoted military veteran and compassionate husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, in Independence, Louisiana. Born on Friday, December 5, 1947, in Manchester, New Hampshire, Clement’s life was marked by selfless service, warmth, and unwavering dedication to his family, community, and country.
Clement began his professional journey humbly as an orderly at the United States Veterans Administration Hospital in Manchester, New Hampshire. Over the years, his commitment and exceptional skills led him to retire as the Chief of Prosthetic Services at the New Orleans Veterans Administration Hospital. His career was characterized by a deep commitment to improving the lives of veterans, reflecting his generous and kind nature.
His military service spanned a remarkable 25 years. Clement honorably served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War before continuing his service with the Air National Guard. Called back to duty during Operation Desert Storm, he served with distinction in the U.S. Air Force. Throughout his life, Clement remained actively engaged with local veterans’ organizations, reflecting his enduring loyalty and camaraderie. He was a dedicated member of the American Legion Adam Gretchman Post 109 in Independence, Louisiana, where he served as Adjutant. Moreover, he was a life member of the Vietnam Veterans of America and played an active role in honoring veterans from all branches by participating in Military Funeral Services—a testament to his compassion and regard for his fellow servicemen and women.
Beyond his professional and military achievements, Clement was known for his giving spirit and vibrant personality. Friends and family cherished his amazing sense of humor, his willingness to be the first to volunteer, and his quirky charm. He bore the qualities of a consummate caregiver—compassionate, kind, and ever-social. One of his great passions was umpiring, a role he embraced for over forty years with enthusiasm and dedication.
Clem is survived by his beloved wife, Antonia Crow Hefley Duval; his loving son, Neil Duval, and daughter-in-law, Sara, of Hopkinton, New Hampshire; and his daughters, Sara Connelly and husband Michael of Cabot, Arkansas, and Kim Reph and husband George, Jr. of Henniker, New Hampshire; his stepchildren, Scott Morse of Independence, Louisiana and Christian Miller (Gary) of Dunkirk, Maryland; His legacy lives on through his cherished grandchildren: Joshua Duval, Ally Duval, Avery Duval, Cailee Green, Kathryn Reph, George Reph, III, Rachael Reph, Olivia Reph, Nicholas Connelly, Logan Connelly, and Riley Miller. He also leaves behind his siblings Richard Duval, Susan Baker (Bill), and Denise Duval (Tim). Additionally, he is remembered fondly by many other family members and friends who were touched by his kindness.
Preceded in death by his first bride of 38 years Nancy Jane Daniels Duval of Goffstown, New Hampshire; parents, Olive Poirier Duval and Robert Gerald Duval, as well as his siblings Robert Duval, Michael Duval, and Collette Duval.
The outpouring of love and respect that Clem inspired speaks volumes about a life well-lived—one dedicated to serving others with humility, humor, and heart. His memory will remain a guiding light to all who knew him, embodying the values of honor, generosity, and steadfast devotion. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
Family, friends, and the community will honor Clem’s life with a visitation on Monday, May 25, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church, located at 548 West 5th Street, Independence, Louisiana. A Celebration of Life will follow at 11:00 a.m.
The graveside service with military honors will be held on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, at Biloxi National Cemetery in Biloxi, Mississippi, beginning at 1:30 p.m.
