Charles Houston Nettles

Charles Houston Nettles passed away on Wednesday, June 26, 2024, at the New Orleans VA Medical Center, at the age of 84.  He was born on Tuesday, February 6, 1940, in Smithdale, Mississippi and resided in Hahnville, Louisiana for many years.  He served in the United States Airforce.

Charles was the owner of National Construction, Inc. prior to his retirement.  He was a graduate of LSU with a degree in architecture and business management. His love for football started when he played for LSU and grew from there. If there was a college or professional football game on, he was watching it. He enjoyed fishing, watching drag races and muscle cars.  Anytime he was asked how he was feeling, he’d reply “I’m Tony the Tiger!”

Charles is survived by his son, Grant S. Nettles; stepsons, Stewart and Michael Graffia; grandchildren, Nicholas Nettles, Derek Brooker, Raven Snyder, and Jessica Nettles; great grandchildren, Zander Nettles, Cohen and Hudson Snyder, Trenton and Oddie Brooker, and Amelia Nettles (due in July); and former wives, Dona Nettles and Eleonore R. Zarski.

Preceded in death by his parents, Prentiss B. and Ira W. Nettles; brother, Prentiss Nettles, Jr.; and sister, Alice Virginia Nettles.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Celebration of Charles’ Life in the chapel of LN Hughes Funeral Services, 21400 South I-12 Service Road, Ponchatoula, Louisiana on Saturday, July 13, 2024, from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm, followed by military honors at 1:00 pm.

Burial will be held in Nettles Cemetery at a later date.
