Charles Philip LaPrime, affectionately known to all who knew him as "Harley Charlie," passed away peacefully on Monday, April 27, 2026, at his residence in Ponchatoula. Born on Tuesday, October 15, 1946, in the vibrant city of New Orleans, Charlie lived a life infused with passion, loyalty, and an unyielding love for the open road.
From his earliest days, Charlie showed a spirit that roamed as freely as the Louisiana bayous that cradled his childhood. Yet it was his deep and enduring connection to Harley Davidson motorcycles—especially his beloved black 2000 Sportster—that truly defined him. Saturdays were sacred to Charlie, who could be found astride his Harley, the low rumble of the engine singing beneath him, as he journeyed to spend time with family and friends. These excursions were more than rides; they were celebrations of kinship and freedom, moments stitched together by laughter, stories, and the joy of shared experience.
Charlie was a man whose heart was tied tightly to those closest to him. He is survived by his cherished wife, Barbara Meinke LaPrime, whose unwavering companionship was a beacon throughout his life. Together, they nurtured a family that formed the core of his existence: his sons Charles “Charlie” LaPrime (Lucretia), William “Billy” LaPrime-Hermann, and Andy LaPrime; his daughters Michelle LaPrime Bowman (Chris) and Melanie LaPrime Soden (Stephen). The flame of Charlie’s legacy burns bright through his grandchildren Breanna, André, Trey, Joshua, Bethany, Cameron, Cooper, Cheyenne, and Aiden, and continues into the next generation with seven great-grandchildren. He was also a beloved brother to Billy “Wild Bill” LaPrime, Geraldine "Gerry" Smith (J.D.), and Kirby LaPrime.
Though his parents, Anna Marie Stansbury and James Joseph LaPrime, and many siblings have gone before him, their memory remains woven into the fabric of his story—a story of resilience, love, and the essence of a life well-lived.
In reflecting on Charlie’s journey, one sees a man whose name was synonymous not just with motorcycles, but with a spirit of adventure and connection. He carried his nickname "Harley Charlie" with pride—a tribute to the twin loves that defined him: the thunderous roar of his bike and the warmth of family around him. His passing marks the quiet closing of a chapter rich with stories that will be told for generations to come.
Charlie’s presence graced the roads and hearts of many. His journey may have come to its final destination, but the roads he traveled—and the memories he forged—will forever echo in the lives of those who loved him.
Charlie's arrangments were entrusted to LN Hughes Funeral Services.
