Billie “Susie” Smith Hall, a cherished mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away on Sunday, August 2, 2026, in Hammond, Louisiana. Born on Saturday, August 29, 1953, in Amite, Louisiana, Susie was a lifelong Louisianian, deeply devoted to her family, her community, and the countless lives she gently influenced throughout her journey.

Susie was the proud daughter of Bettie and Homer Smith and the beloved granddaughter of Annie Ratliff. She grew up in Amite, where she attended Amite High School, beginning a pattern of dedication and care that would define her life. Susie's professional years were spent as a Case Worker for the State of Louisiana, a role in which she impacted lives with compassion, diligence, and an unwavering commitment to those she served. Following a long and meaningful career, Susie retired, leaving a legacy marked by selfless service and integrity.

Beyond her professional accomplishments, Susie was known for the deep affection she extended to all creatures. Her love for animals was evident in her readiness to rescue pets and her abiding belief that kindness should be extended to every living being. This gentleness was a hallmark of her character, expressed daily through thoughtful actions both large and small.

Susie is survived by her daughter, Sonya Mayeux; her daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Lynn Moran; her grandchildren, Ashley Templeton, Kayla Mayeux, Lily Templeton, and William Moran; and her great-grandson, Jackson Gourdon. She is also survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Timothy and Donna Smith, her brother, Patrick Smith, her aunt, Lynn Cook; and her niece, Olivia Smith. Family was Susie’s anchor, and she cherished every moment in their company, finding light and purpose in their laughter and love.

Susie’s memory will also be honored by the stories and worlds she held close to her heart. These stories were more than pastimes; they were guiding stars that reflected her values—bravery, steadfastness, and the belief that hope and love endure despite adversity. Her fascination for these adventures became an enduring part of her legacy, a source of inspiration for all who shared these moments with her.

Preceded in death by her parents, Bettie and Homer Smith; her grandmother, Annie Ratliff; her uncles, Joseph Ratliff and John Ratliff, and her aunt, Pearl Wagner. Their memories and influences remained ever-present in her life and will continue to be honored by those who loved her.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, from 10:30 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. in the chapel of LN Hughes Funeral Services, 21400 S I - 12 Service Rd, Ponchatoula, LA. The funeral service will follow at 12:00 p.m. Interment will take place at Arcola-Roseland Cemetery.
