Betty Brister Magers, a beloved matriarch whose laughter echoed warmly through the hearts of all who knew her, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 30, 2026, at her residence in Ponchatoula, Louisiana. Born on Thursday, March 16, 1944, in Blanchard, Oklahoma, Betty’s life was a vibrant tapestry woven with love, humor, and an unwavering devotion to her family.
She was a woman known for her remarkable sense of humor, a quality that brought boundless laughter and joy to those around her. She enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, including running the roads and shopping alongside her beloved daughter Theresa and two dear friends, Becki Jenkins and Olivia Prevost. Her days were also filled with cherished daily phone conversations with her sister-in-law, Pat Johnson, highlighting the deep connections she maintained throughout her life. Above all, Betty dearly loved her family and treasured the precious moments spent watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow.
Betty's legacy is carried forward by her loving children: Clayton Brister, Jr. (Faith), Curt Brister (Sherry), and Theresa Brister Landry, alongside her favorite son-in-law, Joey. She is survived by her devoted brother Jody Johnson (Pat) and a vibrant circle of grandchildren including Gage Brister (Rachel), Hunter Brister (Alyssa), Bailey Brister Raiford (Chase), Grant Brister (Hannah), Hagen Brister (Mikaela), Laken Landry Granison (Donovan), Ty Landry (Reaghan), and Madison Smith. The joy she found in family extended to her great-grandchildren Jayden Morris (who cared for her after the passing of her husband), McKayla Morris, Bentley Morris, Noah Brister, Eleanor Brister, Hazel Brister, Slayden Raiford, Clay Raiford, Stella Raiford, Evelyn Brister, Hattie Beth Brister, Watson Brister, Eli Granison, Mila Kate Granison, Hadleigh Landry, and Hollyn Landry. Betty is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends who will fondly remember her loving spirit.
Preceded in death by her husband Edward Magers and former husband Clayton Brister, Sr., as well as her daughter Sonya Brister Smith and granddaughter Casey LeSage. She also mourned the loss of cherished family members including her daughter-in-law Belinda Brister, mother Virgie Johnson Mahurin, father Nolan Sheridan Johnson, brother Robert Johnson, and sister Martha Johnson Wallace.
The community is invited to honor Betty’s memory with services held at Topeka Baptist Church, 807 China Grove Rd, Jayess, Mississippi. Visitation will take place from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Monday, May 4, 2026. The funeral service will begin at 1:00 PM followed by the graveside service at Roberts Memorial Cemetery.
Betty’s life was a testament to love, laughter, and enduring family bonds. She will be deeply missed but forever remembered by all who were fortunate to know her gentle and joyful presence. Until we meet again.
