Bertha Dale Skeen

Bertha “Dale” Skeen, 67, passed away on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, in Hammond, Louisiana. Born on February 15, 1959, in San Antonio, Texas, she spent much of her adult life in Edinburg, Mississippi. In her later years, she made her home in Independence, Louisiana, where she lived with her sister.

Dale will be remembered for her love for her family and the lasting impact she made on those around her. She cherished her role as a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend.

Dale is survived by her loving companion, James Perry; her children, Hope (Joe) Thompson, Curtis (Cassie) Gipson, and Earl (Adrienne) Gipson; her grandchildren, Jordan, Caleb, Cody (Kayla), Tyler (Ruby), Payton, Haley, Lane, and Peyton; 5 great grandchildren; her sister, Sharron Prokop; her brother, Henry Skeen; her sisters-in-law, Martha Skeen and Christine Skeen; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends who will miss her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Lottie Skeen; her sister, Loretta Madden; and her brothers, Roy Skeen, Homer Skeen, and Clark Skeen.

In accordance with Dale's wishes, no public services will be held. Following cremation, her ashes will be scattered in the Great Smoky Mountains.
