Annie Palmer Starkey, affectionately known as 'Nana', passed away on Sunday, April 6, 2025, in Metairie, Louisiana, at the age of 87. Born on July 19, 1937, in Albany, Annie resided in Pumpkin Center. She was a devoted member of several churches throughout her life, including Blood River Baptist Church, New Haven Baptist Church, Calvary Christian Church, and most recently, Cornerstone Church, where she served as the church pianist.
Annie dedicated her career to education, serving as the principal at St. Rose Elementary and teaching at various schools before founding Tiny Tots Nursery School. Her commitment to her faith and community was evident in her charitable nature and love for the Lord.
She is survived by her children, Cheryl Lynette Anderson, Cathy Ann Thompson, and Chad Dwayne Starkey; her grandchildren, Jerrica Saltaformaggio and James Thompson; and her great-grandchildren, Darien, Dylan, and Levi. Annie is also survived by many family members and friends who will miss her dearly.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, WB Starkey; her parents, Hester and Allen Palmer; and her siblings, Albert Palmer, Esther Watts, and Myrtis Palmer.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral service in the chapel of LN Hughes Funeral Services, located at 21400 South I-12 Service Road, Ponchatoula, Louisiana, on Friday, April 11, 2025, at 2:00 pm. Visitation will begin at 12:30 pm and continue until the time of service.
Interment will follow at Serenity Baptist Church Cemetery in Tickfaw, Louisiana.
Donations may be made to Cornerstone Church, 1021 E. Pine Street, Ponchatoula, Louisiana 70454, in memory of Annie.
